Jimmy Miller’s 1968 SS Chevelle perfectly balances factory originality with modern performance. An original SS396, complete with its Protect-O-Plate and owner’s manual, this muscle car has been in Jimmy’s care since 2002—a testament to his dedication to preserving its legacy.
Maintaining its stock appearance, the Chevelle boasts a bench seat, column shift, and its original Palomino Ivory color, which was beautifully repainted in 2020 by a longtime friend. While it looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor, the upgrades beneath the surface tell a different story.
The numbers-matching 396 engine has been fully rebuilt, keeping the original iron heads that Lorenzo expertly reworked with new valves. It’s been equipped with modern internals, including new pistons, connecting rods, and a Lunati cam for added performance. A rebuilt TH400 transmission and a posi rear upgraded to 3.73 gears ensure the power gets to the pavement. The result? A stock-appearing Chevelle that can blast down the quarter-mile in the high 12-second range.
Jimmy’s dedication to blending classic style with subtle performance upgrades has created a Chevelle that’s as impressive to drive as it is to admire. It’s a shining example of how preserving history and enhancing performance can go hand in hand.
